The Key To Aligned Living

The Key To Aligned Living

January 2, 2017

Ever since I announced my blog, Courage 2 Create, would end about a year from now, my fans have been getting all sadface on me, as if I’ve given up. Well, my dears, I will tell you this: I shall never ever give up, no matter how long I live. But, let’s face it: I just gotta be me–and “me,” if you haven’t noticed, is changing, and I have to adapt and let go of the old,to make way for the new. Why y’all tripping anyway, Courage 2 Create was always about transformation and change and growth and going further, climbing higher, and getting deeper. So for all those who think I’m “shutting down….” I am not: I am turning it up. WAY up. Never Give Up. Never Surrender…  You know, I’ve been in the public writing my blog for seven years now, and I have been attacked and hurt many times by what some people who read my blog […]

Nothing Is Personal

Nothing Is Personal

The Toltecs were an ancient civilization that once resided in the country we now know as Mexico. One of the Toltec-based lessons Ruiz shares with us is the idea that nothing we experience in life is personal. He recommends that we always approach the negative things that happen to us as not, in actuality, directed towards us—but as neutral occurrences. When we start with observing life events as being neutral, it is much easier to go straight to trying to understand why we have such an emotional reaction to those events in the first place. This is where healing begins: with an awareness of what truly ails us. This same Toltec principle is often called “non-attachment” in Buddhism. It is the principle that says that by taking […]

The Only Way To Survive Chaos

The Only Way To Survive Chaos

Editors note: the following post was first published in 2013. New posts return January 2nd 2017. Going to the beach in the summer time was just part of the upbringing of a typical Southern California boy. The mixture of the sand, sea salt, wind, and bonfire smoke was probably the first cologne that ever hung across my neck. When I was a kid, I remember going to the beach on one particular hot summer’s day. My family had settled on a spot on the sand, and once we had put down all of our stuff, my siblings and I stripped down to our swim shorts and bathing suits. Then we ran to the shore to meet up with the chaotic mystery that was the vast sea. It was deep and endless. Something we couldn’t even fathom. I remember I didn’t go all the way in. I kept near the shore with the other kids my age. Meanwhile, my siblings, proud and rebellious […]

How To Avoid Getting Burned When Someone Tries To Take Advantage of Your Kind Heart

How To Avoid Getting Burned When Someone Tries To Take Advantage of Your Kind Heart

December 12, 2016

Editors note: the following post was first published in 2014. New posts return January 2nd 2017. “The people who have done kindnesses based on a blind idea of goodwill do just as many kindnesses for the evil as for the good. The evil use the kindnesses to do evil things and harm good people. In that case, the benefactors share the responsibility for harming good people…” – Emanuel Swedenborg In my own experience, I have seen so many honest and good people fall into this trap: they believe that kindness must be bestowed to everyone in the world, regardless of how that person treats them in return. This approach almost always leads The Kind Person to be burned by someone who takes advantage of their kind heart. The Kind Person, having been burned for doing something good, gets angry and begins to erect walls and barriers around their kind heart and chooses to be less kind in general. The Problem With […]

The True Definition of Beauty

The True Definition of Beauty

December 5, 2016

Editors note: the following post was first published in 2014. New posts return January 2nd 2017. Appearances by their very nature are deceiving and by looking only on the outside you will set yourself up for failure because you will underestimate others constantly, and they, in turn, will get the upper hand on you. Instead of judging a book by its cover, then, always hold back your assessment of others until their actions reveal to you who they really are. Why Beauty Is In “The Actions Of The Beheld” What if beauty is not what we always thought it was? What if beauty is not something we can look at at first glance, but something that we experience when we have known someone for a very long time? What if beauty is not on the outside, nor on the inside, but somewhere in between? I have trouble with judgements based upon outward beauty and I feel like the following must […]
